An interesting walking tour, with a local and certified guide, through the charming narrow streets of the medieval quarter and the wider avenues of the “Herculean” expansion, to discover Ferrara in all its many facets and be enchanted by its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The itinerary will take you along the famous Via delle Volte, with its unmistakable row of arches, as well as Piazza della Cattedrale and Piazzetta Ducale, pausing to admire glimpses of the ancient Jewish ghetto, the backdrop to daily life in one of Europe’s oldest communities. A must-see stop is the majestic Castello Estense, a fortress and residence of the lords of Ferrara that is still surrounded today by a moat and drawbridges. From there, the tour continues along the monumental Corso Ercole I d’Este to Palazzo dei Diamanti, immersing you in the Renaissance atmosphere of “Europe’s first modern city.”
